Your Questions Answered

Where does Indian Hair come from?
If its 100% authentic Indian Hair, then it means it originates from India. In the Hindu tradition of ceremoniously making sacrifices at the Hindu temples, millions of women choose to sacrifice what means most to them - their hair. The Indian temples then auction hair to distributors the proceeds of which are returned back into the community or to support the temple.

What do all the various terms mean - Virgin, Remy, etc?
Remy hair is the highest grade of real, natural human hair that can be purchased for use in wigs or hair extensions. Human hair produces the best, longest lasting wigs and extensions. It is considered to be the top of the line in human hair because the cuticles are kept intact. Maintaining the hairs' cuticles and aligning them in a unidirectional fashion for weaving to create a wig or extension creates a hair piece that is completely natural in appearance.

This type of hair is divided into six quality categories based on processing and length grading.
There are three categories each of virgin and non virgin hair.

Virgin Remy hair is considered the best for use in wigs and extensions. It has not been chemically treated in any fashion. No coloring, perms, or any other processing has taken place. This hair is 100% natural.

Non virgin hair has been through some chemical processing on its way to becoming a wig or extension. The most common processing involves changing the color of the hair.

Three distinctions are based on hair length per weft.

  1. Single drawn Remy hair is made up of hairs of all different lengths as it grows naturally on the head. The cuticles are intact and these pieces look very natural.
  2. Double drawn hair is sorted so that all the hairs in a weft are within one or two inches in length.
  3. Double drawn to length is the highest grade is double drawn and sorted so that all of the strands are of the exact same length. This is the most expensive grade of hair because of the care that is required and the time it takes to sort the hair so meticulously.

Why should I buy Virgin Indian / Indian Remy Hair?
There is simply no better hair on earth due to the care and processing of Indian Remy Human Hair. There is a full selection of textures available with Indian hair and they are all natural down to the root! Choose from straight, wavy, curly, deep curly, and kinky curly. Wavy hair can usually be made bone straight by using a flat iron.

For African American women the huge bonus is that the natural hair color already matches their natural hair without the need for additional coloring or enhancement. It's usually available in natural black or off black colors (on the hair color chart it's 1 and 1B respectively).Indian hair even comes in natural dark browns and lighter browns, which mixes well with black hair in a number of situations. Indian hair also comes in blondes, reds, and whatever else... but remember, once it's colored it's no longer virgin hair.

What is Bulk Hair?
Bulk hair is unbundled loose hair used for braiding and to create the numerous hair extension styles. World Hair Extensions delivers this hair for use in salons

What is Wefted Hair?
Wefted hair is used in weaving and is sewn into a track ready for the weaving process.

What is the distinction between Machine Weft and hand tied Weft?
Hand tied wefts are those that are tied around a strong weaving thread, a process that is done by hand. World Hair Extensions only sells hand tied wefts because they are much thinner than machine wefts, which means they provide for a much more natural look. Machine wefts are much more bulky because they are made using sewing machines, a process that is less precise than when done by hand.

Cutting Hair Wefts?
It is important that you do not cut hand tied wefts from the top. If the weft is not cut properly is will lead to shedding. Please view our article on Cutting Hair Wefts.

How Much Hair Will I Need?
A full weave usually requires 1/2 to 2 bundles of hair. When using 10" or 12" of hair 1 bundle is enough for a full weave.

How many oz. come in a pack of hair?
A pack of hair consists of 4oz. of hair.

Can the hair be colored?
Virgin hair can be professionally colored, however we do not recommend coloring our 100% Remy and Colored Indian hair because it has already been chemically processed.

What colors does the hair come in?
The virgin hair only comes in a natural 1B (Dark brown). The 100% Remy comes in 1, 1B, 2, 4, 6, 22, 27, and 30. and the Colored Indian hair comes in 1,1B, 2, and 4.

Can the curly hair be straightened?
Yes, all of our virgin curly and colored indian curly hair can be straightened.

How often should I wash my hair?
We recommend washing the hair at least once a week.

What products should I use on the hair?
When shampooing and conditioning the hair we recommend using products with a moisturizer in it. Here at World Hair Extensions we use and sell Design essential Hair products.
